Tesco Football arrives at Easter Road Children from local primary schools enjoyed a fun-packed morning on Wednesday as they took part in first Tesco Bank Football Challenge alongside first team players; Sam Stanton and Jordon Forster. New in post as Head of Community Coaching; Tom Elliott welcomed everyone along to Easter Road and kicked off the event which was set up four years ago to introduce children in Primary 2 and 3 to football. Tom is no stranger to community football having over 15 years’ experience delivering football sessions to children, as young as two years old. Looking forward to being part of the first ever Tesco Bank Football Challenge at the home of Hibernian FC, Tom said: “Our coaches have been with these children over the last six weeks so it’s great to see them improve and get the chance to play on the pitch here at Easter Road. Not only that, but getting to meet some of the first team players will hopefully encourage these children to come along on matchday and enjoy that experience.” Lynda White, Headteacher at St Marys Primary School, said: “It’s been great to see the children having fun at Easter Road today and putting into place all the skills they have learnt over the last six weeks of coaching.” The children were active throughout the morning with only a short break to catch breath but also when Tom introduced the first team players; Sam and Jordon along with some of the under-20s squad who enjoyed the cross bar challenge. The Tesco Bank Football festivals are a great way for children to experience football first hand and learn new skills or develop known ones. One parent commented; “Thanks for converting my little girl. Left for school saying she didn’t like football. Returned home full of excitement and stories about her trip to Easter Road. Many thanks.” All 150 school children had a great time along with the players and coaches. Thanks to everyone involved in making these children’s first experience of Easter Road such a memorable and enjoyable one.
