Testimonial from BJJ Competitor Sam McNally: Training with Alan - TopicsExpress

Testimonial from BJJ Competitor Sam McNally: Training with Alan has made a huge difference to me as an athlete. I train Jiu Jitsu twice a day often times up to six days a week. Dedicating so much time to a sport youd expect that Id have a good understanding of body mechanics and training methods but until I started training with Alan I was clueless. Alan was extremely patient and constantly made adjustments to improve my training and recovery with his vast wealth of knowledge. Since he has taken over my Strength & Conditioning programming I have made leaps and bounds in my athletic abilities in ways that I never even knew were possible. I am much stronger, faster and explosive and my overall conditioning and recovery abilities have improved immensely. The training that Alan provides is so tailor made to fit my personal abilities that I can see progress literally session after session. It is cliché to say in a testimonial but I cannot recommend Alan highly enough, his philosophies, training methods and vibrant personality have changed how I train and compete in a way that I am forever grateful for. - Sam McNally Sam is one of Irelands best and most active BJJ competitors, is a former European Champion and just missed out on medalling at the Worlds in June this year by an advantage to the eventual winner. Many regard him as one of the most technical BJJ practitioners at any level nationally and he has recently just received a long overdue promotion to purple belt. When Sam began training he had little to no previous training experience and is a prime example of how developing specific energy systems can translate to better sporting performance. In a sport in which a multitude of energy systems are tested you must understand which ones are being trained constantly in competition preparation, the essence of the athlete youre training and which systems need to be developed to make them more well rounded and when to manage the volume and intensity of these sessions to avoid overtraining and make sure the athlete is peaking properly for when matters the most: their actual sporting event. With Jiu Jitsu, matches can range from 5-10mins in length, with short to mid-term breaks between matches and multiple matches throughout the day. The Energy Systems being tested here can and will include everything from both Alactic Power & Endurance, Lactic Endurance and Aerobic Capacity. With Sam his style is very unique. He is a light featherweight who relies almost completely on technique, loves to pull guard and work for sweeps and rarely gets tired. Sams training focused on increasing Absolute Strength alongside Alactic Power. Sam got most of his conditioning from his preparation for the World Championships. As stated most of his days consisted of x2 a day sessions, lots of both drilling specific Jiu Jitsu techniques as well as hard sparring and shark tank sessions. This is hell for anybody thats done it and is where his heavy Aerobic (Power) work and Lactic Endurance would have been happening, so for our conditioning prep we concentrated on displaying the strength hed built during his Maximal Strength phase with speed-strength and Alactic Power work. When Sam felt tired from Jiu Jitsu we pulled back and did a really light Aerobic recovery session at a low heart rate simply to help him recover to be 100% getting back on the mats. This resulted in Sam being a much stronger, more explosive, less fatigued and much different animal than previously. The best prepared Ive ever felt competing. Its a pleasure to help such a quality athlete improve and watch them with an increased capacity performing how they should!
