(Testing :p) Border control: All critiques to my history and logic - TopicsExpress

(Testing :p) Border control: All critiques to my history and logic welcome. History: Our policy on immigration has been as tough as barring certain ethnicity and shooting at people to the iconic Ellis Isle which was a check-in station for all incoming immigrants that check for diseases and . . . Americanized many foreign names (Okay Mr. Smith). Many of our greatest pioneers, inventors, politicians, and patriots were immigrants. Like a child who was locked up in a closet for years appreciates a blue sky and flowers more than the average child, immigrants from oppressive countries appreciated freedom and exemplified it. Border Reasoning: The moral/freedom argument is for an open border so that individuals are not stuck in such dark places. The security/economic argument is for a controlled border to allow our economic system a chance to adjust to population fluctuations and keep out potential bad guys. The freer the market the faster it adjusts to population changes but there are parts of our economy that divert from that (education, welfare, housing, healthcare, ext- these will take an initial hit and suffer from scarcity, high cost and lower quality) with proper warning and foresight a community can adjust (a store can call an affiliate in a higher density/ethic area and ask what they should stock and how many people to hire for that population or a land owner will build housing rather than the offices he/she was initially planning). Border Plan: I want a plan that compromises freedom of movement for immigrants and the security concerns of the nation. I want Ellis Isle- like check-in stations/points all along the border (or even turn every DPS office into one) where individuals can go to enter into the immigration process (and get a criminal screening- all drug lords and psychotics not welcome) which will include education courses (ethics and history mainly) a probation period for the individual or family to find a stable home and job without committing any crimes. To help the individual starting out, Im fine with waving their income tax for two years. To help ease the burden of a drastic population increase on services, Im fine with a time period of putting taxes in before being able to take from welfare. I know there are weaknesses in this idea and would appreciate feedback ^-^.
