Testing your words ... Did you know that once you’ve taken the time to set SMARTER goals for yourself that you should understand the vast majority of human beings will not support you in achieving these goals? In fact, many times, those who are “closest to you” will try to derail you. This includes husbands, wives, siblings, parents, teachers, and so-called friends. It is important to understand that these people are not necessarily deliberately trying to bring you down, although they could be. Unfortunately, deep down most are more often interested in having you in their life for their own selfish pursuits than to be an encouraging part of your life to help you live up to your greatest potential. At various times in our lives we will need to overcome such negativity and doubts of others — but more often than not, we need to overcome them in ourselves. Stand back satan! Often times, when you feel a weakening in your desire toward achieving goals, it is due to running your mouth. But are you aware of the first natural law of truth? The Word will always be tested. Thus, you announce to others what your goals are — and afterward, one of two things happens: You get criticized; or You get praised. If you are criticized, you may lose focus and abandon your goal completely (that’s often what happens). On the other hand, the exceptional person recycles criticism as fuel for the fire, plowing ahead toward achieving his/her goals. To do this requires that we must have absolute conviction. But what is conviction exactly? Its the commitment to do whatever it takes regardless of what is comfortable, convenient, or cost effective. Do this well, and you will enjoy the fruit of what most want, but few are willing to work for. Unfortunately, envy will always keep such folks from ever living up to their greatest potential.
