Tetlin NWR biologists are working with a number of partners on a multi-year study looking at the movement patterns and dispersal behavior of lynx in relation to snowshoe hare abundance in Interior Alaska. Currently we are working with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Utah State University, Koyukuk-Nowitna NWR, Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, and the USGS on this study. This winter lynx capture and collaring efforts are taking place at Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest, Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, Koyukuk-Nowitna NWR, and Tetlin NWR. Other partners in Alaska and Canada may join us in these efforts next year. We hope to advance our understanding of lynx and snowshoe hare ecology in the northwestern boreal forest with possible continental applications.
