Texans for Education Reform is the organization funded by Americans for Prosperity and the Koch brothers. They were the ones who ran those ads during the last legislative session supporting a so-called Achievement School District and the Parent Trigger strategy. If approved, both of these would result in closing hundreds of public schools and turning them into charter schools. Local taxpayers would continue to be taxed to support them, but they would have no say in their policies or budgets. There is no doubt that Texans for Education Reform will support Dan Patricks agenda, and they are all over social media pushing that agenda and celebrating their victory. This link will take you to a video about them. Note that their meme is what is best for the children. Yet their real strategy is to destroy Texas childrens public schools. They also repeatedly refer to failing schools but never to the failed policies that make things so difficult today for all involved. Another one of their code phrases is status quo. They hammer that in reference to those of us who strongly believe that public schools are vastly important to sustain any semblance of a democracy. Remember, they say privatization is preferable to the status quo. Florence Shapiro, a former state senator from Plano and chair of the Senate education committee before Patrick, is THE major reason why school funding has been ruled inadequate and ineffective. She did everything she could to steer funds to the wealthy districts and was successful enough to skew the formulas in their favor. With the exception of another traitor to public education, Rod Paige is the only minority voice in the video--and yet they think they know what is best for all Texas children. If you have time, check out their Facebook page and their Tweets often to get a glimpse of what they are up to. It will not be good, and we can expect to see their barrage of television ads to begin soon. https://m.youtube/watch?v=wVOjfrgGUTI
