Texas Photographers Rope Readers with Images of the Lone Star State Photographers Kathy Adams Clark and Larry Ditto present an ample slice of Texas in their new book Texas: A Photographic Journey ($12.95, Farcountry Press, 2014). Accompanied by captions from Gary Clark, writer of the Houston Chronicle column “Nature,” this collection of 105 color photographs highlights the sights, culture, and activities that keep people coming back to this great state. For Kathy Adams Clark, photographing her home state is a pleasure. “Texas is so diverse,” she says, “We have shorelines, towering forests, prairies, brush country, deserts, and agricultural areas. We have ancient history and modern skylines. The state is so diverse it’s hard to ever get tired of photographing its beauty.” It takes true Texas natives to capture a spirit that big. Clark shares that it’s all about knowing the location: “I like to return to a place over and over as I photograph. The changing light and changing seasons always give me an opportunity for new images. I find that familiarity makes for better photography.” Clark’s and Ditto’s insights lend Texas: A Photographic Journey an authenticity that’s hard to find elsewhere. Their lenses take us to the dramatic vistas of Big Bend National Park and to the quiet waters of Caddo Lake, let us gaze at a starry night over the Panhandle and at the bright lights of the big city, and showcase favorite Texas wildlife and historic missions. Texas is an adventure like no other, and the largest state in the Lower 48 now comes travel-sized for your convenience. Texas: A Photographic Journey is available at local bookstores and gift shops, through online retailers, or from Farcountry Press at 1.800.821.3874, farcountrypress.
