Texas Tech Continues Community Music Program LISD students and parents are invited to learn about the Texas Tech String Project WHAT: Texas Tech University String Project registration and information meeting WHEN: 6-7 p.m., Tuesday (Sept. 16) WHERE: School of Music, Texas Tech University WHO: Through the Texas Tech String Project, underprivileged Lubbock Independent School District (LISD) students learn to play string instruments at a reduced cost. Instructors are music and education majors at Texas Tech. This meeting will allow parents and students the opportunity to ask questions, meet instructors, enjoy a string concert, try the instruments and register for the program. Free pizza will be provided. The Texas Tech String Project was founded in 2001 with the help of the National String Project Consortium and the American String Teachers’ Association. The program originally was funded by a three-year grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education and matched by money from Texas Tech. The university, student instruction fees and other grants now fund the program.
