Text for Thursday, Aug 29, y Texto del jueves, 29 de agosto It is the spirit of your Father that speaks by you.—Matt. 10:20. Paul, who was “filled with holy spirit,” spoke boldly against a sorcerer. What an effect that had on the principal administrator of Cyprus, who was listening to the whole conversation! That proconsul accepted the truth, “as he was astounded at the teaching of Jehovah.” (Acts 13:8-12) Clearly, Paul knew well the importance of God’s holy spirit when it comes to speaking the truth. (Matt. 10:20) He later entreated the congregation in Ephesus to make supplication for him that “ability to speak” might be given him.—Eph. 6:18-20. Not only did holy spirit enable Paul to speak but, at times, it forbade him to speak in certain localities. As he embarked on his missionary journeys, Paul was guided by God’s spirit. (Acts 13:2; read Acts 16:6-10.) Jehovah still guides the preaching work by means of his spirit. Like Paul, all of Jehovah’s obedient servants strive to declare the truth with boldness and zeal. Even though God’s direction is not as obvious today as it was in Paul’s time, we can be sure that Jehovah is using his holy spirit to make sure that deserving ones hear the truth.—John 6:44. Acts 13:8-12 But El´y·mas the sorcerer (that, in fact, is the way his name is translated) began opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. Saul, who is also Paul, becoming filled with holy spirit, looked at him intently and said: “O man full of every sort of fraud and every sort of villainy, you son of the Devil, you enemy of everything righteous, will you not quit distorting the right ways of Jehovah? Well, then, look! Jehovah’s hand is upon you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sunlight for a period of time.” Instantly a thick mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went around seeking men to lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul, upon seeing what had happened, became a believer, as he was astounded at the teaching of Jehovah. Matthew 10:20 for the ones speaking are not just YOU, but it is the spirit of YOUR Father that speaks by YOU. Ephesians 6:18-20 while with every form of prayer and supplication YOU carry on prayer on every occasion in spirit. And to that end keep awake with all constancy and with supplication in behalf of all the holy ones, also for me, that ability to speak may be given me with the opening of my mouth, with freeness of speech to make known the sacred secret of the good news, for which I am acting as an ambassador in chains; that I may speak in connection with it with boldness as I ought to speak. cts 13:2 As they were publicly ministering to Jehovah and fasting, the holy spirit said: “Of all persons set Bar´na·bas and Saul apart for me for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 16:6-10 Moreover, they went through Phryg´i·a and the country of Ga·la´ti·a, because they were forbidden by the holy spirit to speak the word in the [district of] Asia. Further, when getting down to Mys´i·a they made efforts to go into Bi·thyn´i·a, but the spirit of Jesus did not permit them. So they passed Mys´i·a by and came down to Tro´as. And during the night a vision appeared to Paul: a certain Mac·e·do´ni·an man was standing and entreating him and saying: “Step over into Mac·e·do´ni·a and help us.” Now as soon as he had seen the vision, we sought to go forth into Mac·e·do´ni·a, drawing the conclusion that God had summoned us to declare the good news to them. Durante su estancia en Chipre, Pablo se llenó de espíritu y denunció con valentía a cierto hechicero. El procónsul que gobernaba la isla escuchó sus palabras con gran interés. De hecho, “quedó atónito por la enseñanza de Jehová” y aceptó la verdad (Hech. 13:8-12). Con toda seguridad, el apóstol comprendía que es muy necesario contar con la guía del espíritu santo para poder predicar la verdad (Mat. 10:20). Por eso les pidió más tarde a los cristianos de Éfeso que oraran por él a fin de que Dios le diera “capacidad para hablar” (Efe. 6:18-20). Aunque el espíritu santo posibilitó que Pablo hablara en ciertos lugares, en otros se lo impidió. Además, siempre lo guió durante sus viajes misioneros (Hech. 13:2; léase Hechos 16:6-10). En nuestros tiempos, Jehová continúa usando su fuerza activa para dirigir la predicación. Y nosotros, como Pablo, nos esforzamos obedientemente por proclamar la verdad con valor y entusiasmo. Es cierto que el espíritu no nos guía hoy de una forma tan evidente como en tiempos del apóstol, pero estamos seguros de que sigue dirigiéndonos para que llevemos el mensaje a quienes merecen conocer la verdad (Juan 6:44). Hechos 16:6-10 Además, atravesaron Frigia y el país de Galacia, porque el espíritu santo les había prohibido hablar la palabra en el [distrito de] Asia. Además de eso, al bajar a Misia, se esforzaron por entrar en Bitinia, pero el espíritu de Jesús no se lo permitió. De modo que pasaron por alto a Misia y bajaron a Troas. Y durante la noche le apareció a Pablo una visión: cierto varón macedonio estaba de pie y le suplicaba y decía: “Pasa a Macedonia y ayúdanos”. Ahora bien, luego que hubo visto la visión, procuramos salir para Macedonia, pues llegamos a la conclusión de que Dios nos había mandado llamar para declararles las buenas nuevas.
