Thai Poosam is approaching...Thai Poosam specials.. AvanasiPaththu Though Tamils who sailed to South Africa had nothing…. Who ventured high seas to unknown lands…. leaving everybody everything behind in INDIA…. they did not forget this special song ( ten+three songs)…Avanaasipaththu…in praise of SWEET MURUGA who was everything for them….. this is sung by South African Tamils regularly for Muruga Prayers (apart from the Garuda Paththu for Vishnu ( Purattasi prayers) which you saw in Purattasi month.) AvanasiPaththu is a very attractively worded literature on Lord Muruga…I used to sing this ( rather recite this. As I am not a good singer! ) These ten+three ( though Paththu means ten this has 13 songs) I have put when I did a book called “Devotional songs” for Mrs. MaragathaValli and MrY.S.Naidoo of Mobeni Heights. I feel that these poems can be sung ALWAYS AND ALSO when someone is very very sick having the fear of death... Avinaasipaththu…if you sing these you will not have “ naasam” means no death …..means long life …with no sickness as there are many lines in these 10+3 songs indicating the arrival or coming of the YAMA lord of death and the devotee requesting the nearness of Muruga seated on the peacock before he could be taken away by the YAMA! Vayal++uur--- agricultural fields ++town---a beautiful village surrounded by Rice fields on all sides), which is situated around 10 kms from the famous South Indian temple town Thiruchirappalli.
