Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after an assault in Witney. At around 3.10am on Monday (25 August), the victim, a 22-year-old man, was walking from Witney town centre with a friend on the public footpath between Church Lane and Witan Way, near the river bridge, when they noticed a man behind them. The man started shouting at them and accusing them of damaging his bike and the victim became involved in a verbal disagreement with the man. This resulted in the victim being punched a number of times and the offender was then pushed over a fence, which caused his shirt to be ripped. Police were called and the victim was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment to injuries including a chipped tooth and bruising. The offender is white, in his early to mid thirties, around 5ft 11ins tall, of stocky build with short brown hair. He was wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans and carrying black bike frame and wheel. Police would like to speak to anyone with any information about this incident, including a man and a woman who it is thought were asked for help by the victim shortly after the altercation. Anyone with information should contact Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
