Thames Valley Police officers have conducted an underwater search near Reading in relation to a missing person investigation . The search is taking place in two ponds in wooded areas of Burghfield and relate to the investigation into the disappearance of Catherine Nee. Catherine Nee was 32 years old when she was last seen by her family in 2002 and was living at that time in the Ilfracombe area of Devon. She was originally from the Reading area and still had family and connections in the area where she was known by some as Kathy. Thames Valley Police launched a missing person investigation on behalf of Catherine’s family in 2012. New information has since come to light, and throughout today and Thursday (11/12) officers are conducting searches in Burghfield for items which may help with the continuing investigation. Det Insp Kev Mahon from Major Crime said: “Catherine became estranged from her family 14 years ago and in that time they have made attempts to try and find her to no avail and have constantly wondered what happened to her. They turned to Thames Valley Police for our assistance in 2012 to try and trace her and our investigation has led us to this point. “The Thames Valley Police specialist search and rescue team conducted a search of two ponds in the Burghfield woods on the basis of this information. We do not know what we may find, but the hope is that we will discover items relating to Catherine’s disappearance. “In the meantime we are continuing to appeal to anyone who knew Catherine, who was also known as Kathy, or has any information of her whereabouts, to get in touch.” If you have any information please contact Det Insp Mahon via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
