Thandwe unrest kills 5, injures 4 and reports missing 1 ( Thandwe, 3 October 2013) : Not less than five persons were killed in the riots taking place in southern district town of Thandwe in Arakan State, where at least four persons got injured and one person reported missing, said the civil authority and hospital source. Burma President Thein Sein visited the riot hit areas and interacted with victim families yesterday. He is accompanied by Senior General Hla Min from the Burma Army to the localities. Ko Aung Kyaw Lay, a medical worker in Thandwe district hospital, told Narinjara over phone that the bodies of five victims of the clash between the Arakan(Rakhine) Buddhists and Bengali Muslims have been sent to Thandwe hospital. All the victims are identified as belonged to Bengali Muslim community. Meanwhile, four Rakhine Buddhists have been hospitalized with critical injuries and a 20 years old Rakhine youth is reported missing since he faced attacks from a mob in Ninzi village. The deceased have been identified as Daw Aye Kyi (94 years old), Ahdumir (55), Ahdu Smith (85), U Khin Naing (55) and U Myint Liwn (45). They all belonged to Shwe lay (Thapry Chi) village, 17 miles away from Thandwe. A Kaman national named Ko Zaw Kyi has claimed the number of victims may be more than six, but the district authority has denied to admit the number. Ko Aunng Kyaw Lay also added that four Rakhine Buddhists are being hospitalized in Thandwe hospital. They are identified as U Thaung Shwe (40 years old) from Thinpan Chaing village in Taungup township, U ran Naing (38) from Anndaw quarter of Thandwe, U Mra Thein (48) from Kyauk Pru and Lin Lin Tun (26) from Zipyu Gon village of Thandwe. The missing youth is identified as Maung Maung Win (alias) Photar (20 years old). They were attacked by a Bengali Muslim mob on their way to Thandwe from Taungup, while they were crossing a Muslim village named Ninzi of Thandwe township. The motorbike riders had luckily managed to escape from the attack with injuries after a police team from a nearer police station arrived on the spot. According to local authority source, about 70 homes in Shwe lay village, most of those belonged to the Bengali Muslim families were set on fire. The Bengali Muslim families are not ethnic in Myanmar.
