Thanet Council Stick Hypocritical Leaflet Up Jacksi At yesterdays anti-live export demo Thanet Council Officers distributed a leaflet to those who attended which, apart from condescendingly repeating what everybody already knew about the conduct of this evil and barbaric trade from the Port of Ramsgate, requested protestors not to take their anger “out of our staff who are only doing their job”. Ordinarily I would have agreed with this statement, but on this occasion I have my doubts. Some of the staff are clearly not “simply doing their job”. Far from it. In my opinion some of the staff at the Port are complicit in covering up and protecting the convicted criminals who carry out the brutally cruel export of live animals from the Port of the Ramsgate. When I recently tried to film, close up, the conditions these animals have to endure some members of the Port staff tried their best to stop me. Placing hands in front of my camera and standing in the way of the shots I was trying to take. As employees of a council which has passed a resolution opposing live exports from the Port of Ramsgate, these members of staff were behaving in such a way as to negate the democratically decided policy of their employers. In most walks of life this is called gross misconduct. To then ask that that they be treated with respect when they have acted in a way which could be construed as covering up animal abuse and cruelty is the pushing credibility a little far. Thanet Council if you are genuinely opposed to the brutality of live animal exports then please inform your staff not act ways which condone and cover it up. Only then will protestors treat your staff with respect. In the meantime you can stuff your money wasting leaflets up you corporate jacksi.
