Thank you, Theresa, for caring for her when she needed you. We here at Schultz Senior Dachshund Sanctuary in NJ have had two puppy-mill mothers in the past. One, like Lily, did not live very long after we rescued her. But she spent that final summer with us learning about the feel of grass under her paws, after years of living on wire. She experienced normal cohabitation with the other senior Dachshunds here. Regular meals and fresh water were things she had never had before. Best of all was the big basket with her favorite fluffy blankets curled inside, in which she happily nestled each night. I came home from work late one evening to find her in that same basket, in the deepest of sleeps... Our vet had just called a few days before, and said her most recent blood work was perfect. As shocked as I was at her passing, I still remember his quiet response when told: We can treat the symptoms that we see today, but we can never fully repair the toll the past ten years of abuse has taken on her soul.... Bless all who loved Lily, most especially Theresa, her angel right here on earth. #Amen
