Thank you Amrit Mahapatra for nominating me. Here is my list of the 10 top footballers of our generation: 1. LIONEL MESSI (the speed, the quick feet, amazing dribbling, clueless defenders, great free-kicks- in short… pure magic on the field… my sentimental all-time favourite) 2. ZINEDINE ZIDANE (the greatest footballer of our generation…a living legend) 3. BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER (if u had to give a face to the German free-flowing, expansive, attacking style of football, it would be this man- one of my sporting heroes and the best midfielder I’ve seen) 4. RONALDINHO (one of the most gifted footballers of our time, what made him extra special were the fantastic, hard-to-predict tricks that he developed in his game… and of course, the speed) 5. PHILIM LAHM (Never seen any other footballer being always-and I mean always- in the thick of the action- whether at the back, in the middle or at the front. The Warhorse!) 6. ANDRES INIESTA (A great player by all means, and more than that, an integral part of that famous Spanish tiki-taka football- a wonderful player, one of the best midfielders of our generation) 7. LUIZ SUAREZ (An extremely dangerous player- dangerous with the ball I mean- who can create opportunities out of nowhere… yes, it’s only that aspect of the person I’m talking about here.) 8. MANUEL NEUER (a major reason of Germany’s consistency in world football is that they are blessed with wonderful goalkeepers- Neuer is already one of the greatest ever) 9. STEVEN GERRARD (the reason why Liverpool has always been my favourite football club) 10. IKER CASILLAS (The best goalkeeper in the world in the post-Oilver Kahn era) Now I nominate Aranya Biswas, Subhadeep Das, Devang Patel, Biswarup Bhattacharya to put up their top-ten-footballers-of-our-generation-list.
