Thank you, Andrew Gard, for writing such a beautiful review about their new CD, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr LIVE (below) on Amazon! I want to share it with all our friends. Randall J Jeffries, Asst to McCoo/Davis First, a disclaimer: Im a huge fan of these artists who has seen them in concert approximately 50 times. That said (now that Ive surrendered all pretense of objectivity), I thoroughly enjoy and heartily recommend this CD set! It perfectly captures the experience of seeing Marilyn and Billy in concert from the moment they step foot onstage until the bands final note, including all of the couples between song dialogue. This is essential because Marilyn & Billys show takes the audience on a journey through their lives and storied careers, from their musical roots (Billys in St. Louis style blues, Marilyns life-long fascination with torch songs) to their string of hits as members of the 5th Dimension and subsequent accomplishments as a duo. The inclusion of songs by Lady Antebellum and Alicia Keys in this set also demonstrates that the couple, whove been in show business nearly 50 years, continues to remain interested and engaged in the contemporary music scene and challenges themselves by performing newer material in addition to their classic hits. Energetic accompaniment is provided throughout by a versatile 5 piece band skillfully led by Darrell Alston as well as a pair of background vocalists, all of whom help re-create the 5th Dimensions trademark wall of sound harmonies. Highlights of the set (There are no low-lights) include Marilyns emotional readings of her signature song One Less Bell To Answer and a little known, Clint Eastwood penned torch song, Why Should I Care? from his film True Crime; Billys riotous delivery of the upbeat blues Steppin In and the duos funky remake of the 5th Dimensions California Soul. The disc set, and the emotional journey of the show, closes with a medley of Kirk Franklins Lean On Me and The O-Jays Love Train that can both move a listener to tears AND get you on your feet dancing--and really, what more could anyone possibly ask from an evening of music? If you cant get to see the amazing Marilyn & Billy in concert yourself, then this CD set is the next best thing.
