Thank you Chris Saper for inviting me to participate in this painting challenge. Today is Day 4 of the Challenge for me. This involves posting 3 of my projects each day for 5 days and nominating another artist to do the same. On Day one I nominated Tim Kelly . Day one I nominated Day two Dan Graziano, day 3 Lynn Mehta. Today I nominate Frank Baggett I met Frank in 2012 at Callaway Gardens during their plein air event. Hes known for his plein air, studio and wildlife paintings. We have exhibited together and often won awards at the same venues. He mostly works in acrylic and is handy with a knife. Palette knife that is. He a turkey painter...really wild turkeys...Most recently we both were accepted into and won awards in the Higbee 6squared exhibition. Enjoy. The works today are: Azalea Alabamthe © Kirk Larsen oils11x14 painted during and sold at Callaway Garden Plein Air event in 2013, this piece features a very local variety of Azalea growing alongside the blue spring that is the source of Callaway blue water. It was a challenge to take on a deeply clustered white on white blossoms in bright sunlight on a slanted hill. (Incidentally Chuck Marshall was apinting 200ft away) #2 The Mighty © Kirk Larsen 2012 oils 12x16 plein air nocturne painted during 757 plein air near the naval yard at Norfolk VA. This was and is very moving for me. It started as a combination of perseverance and awe and finished as a tribute to all servicemen and the workers that build these stalwart bastions of fpower and our past, present and future Navy. In fact it occurs to me I do not know where this paintings is or I would have brought it to Vermont yesterday when I dropped of art for the small works show. Catch you tomorrow with my 5th day.
