Thank you Diane Hilden for the amazing photos and commentary. May 7th saw our 1st saltie of the season arrive. The CSL Assiniboine arrived late afternoon through thick lake ice. Later as many waited at Canal Park for the first saltie of the season Diana to arrive, she became stuck in the ice. Two local tugs went out into the lake to assist. The Walter J. McCarthy, Jr. (also bound for Duluth) ended up going out and around the Diana and another saltie and cut a path for the Diana who arrived just before midnight. It was a cold, windy & rainy arrival!
