Thank you Main Street UMC for serving as the hands and feet of Christ in our community! This morning Aldersgate Mission received the John Hope Franklin Community Service Award at the 8th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural and Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast on the USM Campus. Rev. Linda Dixon, director of Aldersgate and Associate pastor of MSUMC, eloquently received the award on our behalf. Later at the Leadership Luncheon for Pine Belt 360, an organization recently formed to help connect area churches and leaders, following remarks by former Governor William Winter, Main Street UMC was again recognized as school partnerships were discussed. Principal Donna Scott of Hawkins Elementary and Sharon Miles (coordinator of Neighbors at Hawkins and one of our wonderful Fellowship Worship leaders) shared the importance of Hawkins partnerships with Ekklesia, True Light Missionary Baptist Church, and Main Street UMC in helping the school to transition during the last three years from a failing school to a Gold Ribbon School, only 3 points away from the highest possible school rating. Thank you Ekklesia for keeping Sharon Miles as community coordinator at Hawkins for four years and thank you Hawkins for allowing Main Street UMC to share in your inspiring journey!!
