Thank you Sheryl Underwood for sharing your story and I tell you the truth, I have been in this situation back in 2002...right at the time I got hired to work for New York City Opera. There were people in the business of opera that I called friends and even the person I was in a relationship at the time who questioned me being chosen to be at such a great company. I over heard conversations about my look, voice and education. I started to feel sad and. However, it took John Beeson, then head of the music department at NYCO to tell me that I was right were I belong and his confidence in me, my work ethic, my talent and the will of my Higher Power propelled into seven years as a weekly artist, singing many wonderful roles at this company. This lead me into working at many other opera companies, including The Metropolitan Opera House. I never said a word to those persons and I have referred those singers to other companies for work and I have even hired them to work with my company Opera Noire of New York. I still wish them well. I am grate for my blessings.
