Thank you Zachary for nominating me for the Ice bucket challenge. Instead of doing the challenge and donating to ALS, I will be donating to the American Heart Association. Heart disease causes nearly 600,000 deaths in the U.S. each year. Whether it is related to high blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes or high cholesterol, all are major issues causing high morbidity and mortality in the United States. The attached article can explain why the ice bucket challenge is doing great things for charity, but also can cause some difficulties for the non-profit world. Because of this article, I will not be donating to ALS as they have raised millions already (which is outstanding), but rather I will be donating $18 PLUS 25 CENTS FOR EACH LIKE that this post gets to the American Heart Association. I will tally up the total a week from today and donate it then.
