Thank you again to everyone who donated money to the Black Forest Benefit. Here is a summary of how each entity will use the donations. Trilakes Cares: We calculate donations based on the number of "30 gallon trash bags" worth of stuff donated. The store manager is guessing that there were about 300 bags donated from your event. We can, however, tell you that to date, Hangers has given away $26,000+ worth of goods to the BFF families, but this number does include donations from many others. Your group contributed to this effort. We are using the funds to pay for things like gasoline, hotel stays, pet food, human food, clothing, tools, back to school items, glasses, dentures, prescriptions and other things that were lost in the fire. We are helping some families with first month’s rent or deposit for those who didn’t have insurance and now need a new place to live without insurance to help them. We are getting them linens for their beds, towels, shower curtains, plates, cutlery and small kitchen appliances. Even helping them restock their medicine cabinets with over the counter items like Tylenol, allergy meds., cough syrup, first aid kits…..and so much more. ASD20 Fire Fund: As part of its support to the students and staff members of D20 who are victims of the Black Forest fire, the foundation has established the Black Forest Fire Support Fund. This fund will be used to support educational-related expenses of Academy District 20 students and staff members affected by the fire. We are planning to give the net proceeds from this year’s golf tournament to Edith Wolford Elementary to help enhance the playground. We gave $500 to 13 of our full time employees. Catholic Charities is providing the 161 students who were affected by the fire backpack filled with all the necessary items for school. The Foundation will use additional funds to help with the cost of transportation to students displaced by the fire. BFFD: Your organizations generous contribution will be used to close the gap on the purchase of a Simulation Table. This device is a computer driven, interactive fire behavior device that gives the viewer a three dimensional picture of the desired area and allows a facilitator in developing suppression and tactical skills in wildfires of varying magnitude to give the individual the flavor of some difficult and timely decisions that must be made in the fire ground environment. The particular product is constructed by a group of individuals who are based in Santa Fe, NM and have developed flood impact modeling, hazardous materials plume modeling and evacuation planning. The Sim Table product is viewable at simtable and has video footage of actual utilization. This device will be used not only in a regional operation and mitigation education events but also at the Colorado Wildfire Academy and other symposiums around the state. La Foret: After the devastating Black Forest Fire, La Foret established Black Forest Strong to help our community heal and strengthen. La Foret has provided staff to help construct the Black Forest Together Community Resource Center, is in the process of restoring a cabin as a headquarters for grief counseling, and is sponsoring community events throughout the year. Your funds are going directly to community events and programs, given our ability to construct renowned festivals and retreats, it’s only fitting to play to our strengths and use our resources to help rebuild this community. We’re committed to continuing to being a neighbor to Black Forest and our excited for the prospect of seeing this community rebuild! ~Christy
