Thank you all for the notes I have received. I have never felt more right about an issue than I did about changing Ed Days shortsighted and heartless budget. It would have destroyed the fabric of our County in the name of scoring political points. Please know we support everything the Non-profits and Sheriff Patrol do and I hope you will all stand with us in the coming years. This battle to save vital services for the people that need them is far from over. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Jay Here are the highlights of a much better budget that was passed by the Legislature with 4 of 5 Republicans voting YES. That is a truly Bi-partisan budget....That has got to tell you something...... Rockland County Legislature passed a revised budget for 2015. The Legislatures budget, which passed by a bipartisan vote of 15 to 2, restored many of the cuts proposed by the County Executive and reduced Ed Days proposed tax increase to 1.90%. Additional budget highlights include: · 90% restoration of the Sheriffs Patrol Division · Restoration of funding to not-for-profit organizations that provide much needed services to county residents · Elimination of salary increases and new PATRONAGE positions proposed in Ed Days budget · Reduction of property tax increase to 1.90%, ensuring compliance with the tax cap legislation and eligibility for tax rebates · Reversing certain proposed layoffs of some of the lowest paid county workers instead of hiring private firms, resulting in an actual savings in 2015 · Committing $5 million to reduction of Rockland Countys remaining deficit
