Thank you all for your kind words, prayers, and especially to everyone who has come to visit and has extended hugs, food, flowers, and service. This meant a lot to all of us. We are processing grief as a family--it has been really hard. However, were strong, resilient, and were going to pull through--especially with the love we have. He knew how to make our family feel very happy and laugh, made our family get-togethers a warm celebration by bringing us together with his guitar and singing, he made every person feel special and heard while thoughtfully returning their words, and was a mentor to all of his siblings and all of my nieces and nephews. He helped take care of my mom with glaucoma and dad after his stroke with daily errands--our home would not have functioned without him. His myriad of kind services, radiant spirit and memories of him live on inside of us. Im imagining his spirit as a preteen having great fun with basketball with a friend. I couldnt be prouder to have such an amazing brother. I look forward to seeing him again someday, and am just so sorry for any pain he went through, that I couldnt keep him from. He understood my tendency towards melancholy and introvertism--we shared dreams and inventions together. He taught me how to race, and he was the one that taught me how to swim. He taught me volleyball, some piano which I was nowhere near as good as he was at (he was so talented at playing by ear), singing, used to push me in a little red car, threw the discus with me, was the one who first introduced me to videogames at age 5--we had so many fun game competitions together. Saturday morning cartoons with Captain Crunch cereal. He taught me oh so much more and Im glad I got to at least see and give him a hug 2 days before, give him some of my tofu soba noodles and share a Vegan pizza with him at my apartment a few days before. I would do just about anything to have him back and will always look up to him for his physical, spiritual, and emotional strength of character. He is with me in my heart. I love and miss you so much, Matthew. For those who may be far away, this is a song my brother gave to me, and one that Im returning to him: https://youtube/watch?v=zKpN5bkoLJw (Please put the word Vegan in front of icecream flavor as my version) The memorial service for my brother Matthew will be held on Saturday Nov. 22nd at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gainesville, TX.
