Thank you all for your prayers for my dad, Dr. Rafat Amari. The tests confirmed that the Waldenstrom lymphoma cancer has infiltrated the central nervous system of his brain. This disease, known as Bing-Neel syndrome, is a very rare disease and there is not enough research on it. The disease already started impacting his vision, hearing, and movements. The treatment of the disease involves opening the skull and putting a port inside the brain. Typically, this surgery is done on the right side of the brain where there is less functional centers. However, because my dad has angioma on his right side of the brain, the doctor said that he would need to operate on the left side of the brain. The operation is risky because it might cause bleeding and infection of the brain. After the port is put in the skull, chemotherapy will be administered directly to the brain. In addition, chemotherapy, methotrexate, will be given directly to the blood. This chemo is very toxic and can cause problems for the kidney, the heart, and the liver. Also, irradiation of the brain helps in killing the cancer, but it has very dangerous side effect because it kills the good cells of the brain and causes dementia. My dad is reluctant to consider radiation. On Monday Aug 26, my dad will start chemo administered directly through lumbar puncture to reach the spinal fluids. On Wednesday Aug 28, he is scheduled for the surgery for his skull and brain. Although this case is very difficult and there is no good treatment for it, the Lord is bigger and stronger. My dad believes that this is satanic attack due to the ministry. We need you to partner with us in prayer and fasting. Please pray for the following: 1. Pray for guidance to the doctors in coming up with the best treatment as this disease is rare. Also, pray for peace for the family on what treatment to undergo. 2. Pray for the operation on Wednesday August 28 that there will be no bleeding or damage to the brain. 3. Pray that the cancer will not continue to spread inside the brain. 5. Pray for the preservation of all bodily functions controlled by the brain including, sight, hearing, movements, etc. 4. Pray for the protection from the side effects of the chemo that will be administered to the blood (i.e. protection of the heart, liver, and kidney) 5. Pray for complete healing because the Lord is able to heal and do more than we ask or imagine 6.
