Thank you all so much for the well wishes, posts, calls, texts, cards, gifts, and birthday love over the last few days. Even in the midst of a vintage chest cold, it has been the greatest birthday in a while. :-) The icing on the cake & hot sauce on the wings was a fabulous series of days spent talking about music-culture-faith with NO filters, meeting my scholar hero-friends, meeting new scholar-friends, singing-tambourining-recording, seeing legends in their element, and soaking up the Waco sun & Baylor Bear hospitality at the Pruit Symposiums Marching to Zion: Celebrating and Preserving Black Sacred Music. Bigs things are going down in Waco, TX for gospel music history and research. Serious voids & gaps in this historical record are being filled through the efforts of the irrepressible Bob Darden and his team. It was an honor to be involved and witness so much excellence in one spot.
