Thank you everyone for the gracious condolences. You spared a moment of your time to honour my grandfather and that really really meant a lot to us. Was discussing with my mom- the magnitude of love every single family member age 8 to 80 has received for Nanabhais honour. Just a little intro for those who didnt know him: he was the eldest son of Abbasuddin one of the first Muslim Singers to make it in Kolkata as a singer (without ever changing his name) Whilst his father was trying to establish himself my grandfather lived in the village and would walk 5 miles to attend school. That village boy went on to excel year after yea attended Dhaka University and eventually a scholarship to London School of Economics for his MA. Went on to be barrister and called to the bench early on his career. We all revel in pride for his journey from a village boy living off the little royalty from HMV songs of his dad, (and we would know how little that is) to being the Chief Justice of Bangladesh and later nurturing the Alternate Dispute Resolution in the country. But most importantly he was a great grandpa. (yes most important) He fed us - oh man did he feed us- loved us- protected us- worried for us and prayed for us. He was a man of faith- never missed a prayer till the moment of his death, yet never enforced his own views on anyone. He loved music and literature and movies (Aishwarya Rai was quite his favourite) and embraced his religion and culture equally. I wont deny that in many ways we didnt understand each other- like every human he wasnt perfect either - but we loved each other in a way that really taught me to love those who are different from me. His memorial will be held at 4pm on Saturday at Spectra - I am hoping to meet everyone who loved him there.
