Thank you for adding me to this group :) Im a direct descendent (12th generation) of the John Mead (wife Margaret Mandeville) who was one of the original purchasers of the Pompton Patent from the Indians. Ive lived in Pequannock for the last 24 years but it was only about 8 years ago that I learned of my geneological connection to this town when my mom was going through old papers that belonged to my grandmother. Im hoping to learn more about my Meads who lived here in town. I have names and dates but dont know things like occupation/trade or locations of residences and businesses. I am aware of Meads Basin and of the old home that used to sit up where Meadtown Shopping Center is in Kinnelon but dont know how they may (or may not) connect to my relatives. Many years back I did get in touch with Ed Englebart and he lent me a manuscript about the Mead Family in our area. Funny to discover it was written by George Budd Mead Jr who was my great-grandmothers cousin. My grandmother called him Uncle Budd. The last male Meads in my line are dated mid 1800s. Thomas H. Mead Sr. (wife Mary Anne Dougherty Rommel) was a member of the famous 13th regiment of NJ volunteers in the Civil War. While he was away his son Thomas H. Jr. was born in Hurdtown, NJ (near Hurd Mine, Jefferson Twp). Im in possession of personal letters from Uncle Budd to my great grandmother which discuss a divorce between Thomas H. Sr. and Mary--this information becoming public was something of great distress to my great grandmother because Uncle Budd assured her he would exclude it and any other dirty laundry from his reporting. I havent been able to dig up more details about this. Thomas H. Jr. eventually moves to the Scranton, PA area, marries and one of his children is my great grandmother Marjorie Mead (Davies). Im thinking mining is the reason for the move but dont have anything to confirm that (yet). The next 3 generations are all female (my grandmother, mother then me.) Anyhow, Im sorry for the long post--Im hoping any of the members of this group might have a connection to my line or information about it. Thank you for taking the time to read this :)
