Thank you for admitting me to this group! I am somewhat of an outlier as I have not yet been banned from anything (!) In any event, I am a volunteer with Small Things, and I do want to take this opportunity to thank you for starting this forum, and to salute all who give of their time and effort to help animals in our community--even though the various groups may differ in their philosophies and practices!... Okay then: First of all, I believe it is essential to tackle the source of the problem, which is the huge overpopulation of cats in this area,and the explosive growth in their numbers. Yes, we can all work tirelessly to find homes for as many as possible--and the rescue groups work very hard indeed-- but there simply comes a saturation point where the sheer numbers outstrip the capacity of any facility or group to help, and it is heartbreaking. I would think that a TnR program would be helpful, as well as the establishment of a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter clinic that would not only help those on a fixed income, but also the working poor..and as well, I think it is important to continue to educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. In any event, I look forward to lively discussion and debate, and hopefully we can (collectively!!) achieve some good things!
