Thank you for allowing me to join this group. I met Patricia Lee Stotter at the Disruptive Women event in DC, where I was stunned to hear about the incredible failures in caring for all veterans, and for women veterans in particular. I write a monthly column for Disruptive Women and have attended many events. The panel discussion Thursday was the first to move my heart so that I wrote a poem, inspired by two veterans who shared their stories with us. I am not a veteran (I am a graduate of a Quaker college), but I see many parallels in how women soldiers are not seen or heard, and larger cultural problems in equality and recognition. I am a writer and contribute to many outlets, such as The Washington Post. I also write poetry and essays, and have lately been on a tear of writing haiku to match photos that friends, family and I have taken. Ill share one here.
