Thank you for approving me. Ive joined in part to make this group aware that Bethany (where I serve bethanylcs.org) has two openings for next year, for the most part replacing retirements. One opening is for 3rd grade, the other is for 8th/junior high. Bethany is not a classical school. While at least two of her pastors agree with many of the classical models foundations, a teacher who advocates classical ed would need to exercise patience and work within the current system without expecting dynamic changes in it. However, I believe a classically minded teacher would quickly find that many of the foundational concepts of classical ed are already at work within the school (as they are simply common sense!) and any resistance to classical concepts are more a matter of rhetoric than the currency of ideas. I say all of this in order to make you aware of where Bethany is and what she will likely remain. All the same, Bethany is a phenomenal, stable Lutheran school, with dedicated, pleasant staff, a strong liturgical tradition (including in chapel) and a die-hard stance on the Bible and the Confessions. We are looking for the best qualified, confessing teachers to fill our positions and continue our tradition of excellence in the classroom. (Our students routinely outperform the local public schools, which routinely rank highest in the state on standardized tests.) A little cross pollination wouldnt hurt us, but one shouldnt submit their name with the plan of changing the paradigm at Bethany. (It would only cause an unnecessary fight.) Rather, if you desire to teach students reading, writing and critical thought, with Lutheran theology, Bethany is a place where you will be supported to put your teaching style to work in the classroom, with a great team that is always learning from each other, and a fantastic principal who will always have your back. If you are a seasoned teacher with aspirations to administration, our principal is also planning to retire in the next three to five years, and there is potential for advancement from the classroom to administration at that time.
