Thank you for posting this recording, Katea Stitt . My take: On the subway, I dug the man digging on me,but he was caught up in a mass of confusion, as to who I was. In 1970, this album presented a dramatic restructuring of Black poetry using vernacular which had never been codified on a recorded commercial document. I always want to quote this recording, and I have several favorites that I didnt list, because they have expletive words in every sentence. It is sad, because the problematic words are all that people hear now. The words appear too frequently for 2014 listeners because they associate that type of discourse with gangsta. The genius of these lyric/epic poems is undermined by those who take the surface lingo without the substance. If you can hear past them, this is one of the great recordings of the 20th century.
