Thank you for sending us this awesome report Mark! Receiving info and feedback like this in the off season is so great-we appreciate it :) Everyone check out Elis Bleacher Report below! I figured that you all at CCB would appreciate the What a Day! that Eli had playing football last night. I have no doubts that his experiences at CCB are integral to his growth on and off the field. Thank you for helping him to understand just how awesome he really is. Bleacher Report - Eli had his second game of the season last night, and it was, by far, the best performance hes ever had on the field. He was worried about the amount of play time he might get, but that fear was unfounded; he was in for all but about 5 defensive plays. His first play he successfully read the offense, found the ball carrier, and stopped him dead in his tracks at the line of scrimmage. He was in on four tackles, three of them for a loss or no gain. His final tackle stopped the opponents from gaining a first down (or more), sealing the victory for the Bulldogs. And what a tackle it was: they ran a sweep to the strong side, away from Eli, he darted across the field and set up about a yard short of the needed gain, broke down into a solid football stance, and STUFFED the runner. Honestly, more epic than Gandalfs You shall not pass! Full disclosure - He did totally blow his assignment on one play, misread the offense and released the receiver he was covering, allowing a wide open pass for about 15 yards of gain. On the ride home he admitted it, without prompting I did screw up that one play, and I told the team and the coach that one was on me, my fault. He was also the victim of more than a few offensive holding penalties that were not called, the only that got me riled up was when the receiver held/pushed Eli downfield 10+ yards and then threw him to the ground, right in front of both the official and the ball carrier, everyone in the stadium saw it. What should have been a 10 yard penalty resulted in a 30+ yard gain. The Squeebz (my pet name for Eli) even got in on offense. He gave up 30+ pounds to the defensive end he was tasked with blocking as a tight end and proceeded to use solid technique (explode off the ball, stay low, move your feet) to nullify the defender. In the backfield, as a lead blocker on a couple of sweeps (wishbone formation), he LEVELED his first contact. In case you were wondering, yes, I am extremely proud of my son. Understand that he plays football because it is his passion, he has never been pushed by his parents. To see him grow and mature, as a player and a young man, is a blessing. I can see the practical life lessons the game teaches reflected in my son. Accountability, responsibility, dedication and respect. These are certainly things we, as parents, strive to instill, but having them reinforced through his passion is an awesome thing.
