Thank you for the Love everybody! I had a bracing attack of culture shock and most likely exhaustion from a 2.5 hour high altitude hike yesterday, my mentor here is leaving the country in a couple days for family reasons, so I am feeling the time running out on the project and am not feeling like much got done, yet. Being the workaholic that I am , this puts my self-image in a tizzy, so I am filling in the open space with wanderings, nature, praying and art. I love it here, but I am lonely for my family, my cat and my comforts! This is a pretty normal mental experience for travelers. I have been traveling most of the past 5 months so I am sure such a breakdown is supposed to happen! 12 days til Oregon soil under my feet, which seems a lot more do-able with a Live-Classroom session with our beautiful students at the College today (praying internet holds!), a journey to the market, this time with my Spansih speaking housemate Claudia (who by the way is saving my a** with daily rollicking laughter) and a sunset picnic at Qoco- Snake Rock. Gary (as ever my hero) suggested i eat some protein. Hit the nail on the head! With the amount of activity, emotions I have been participating in as well as the higher altitude (and yes Debora, I think some weight loss!) it may be time to brave the meat market and buy the coldest piece of chicken I can find. Question: do I buy from the bottom of the meat pile? or the top? Or maybe nibble on some quail eggs from the stand where the community ladies are peeling them as fast as folks can eat em. Or I could go to the mini-mart and buy some expensive packaged cheese? At least I have my mission for the day...and it sounds positively mouthwatering!
