Thank you for the add. I have been diagnosed with a parotid - TopicsExpress

Thank you for the add. I have been diagnosed with a parotid gland tumour, and no biopsy as yet. My local GP (Australia) had referred me for a core biopsy, and then a few days later I was to see an ENT surgeon. After doing some research, I was uncomfortable about the core biopsy so changed my surgeons appt to the morning of the biopsy. Luckily, as the surgeon said he didnt want me to have the core biopsy. He also didnt see the point in me having a fine needle aspiration as the tumour has to come out. I had a CAT scan with contrast instead. He is a private surgeon and will not operate in public hospital, so I am either up for a privately funded op, or I can go on the public list which can take awhile. In which case I would prefer a FNA to give me some indication of the urgency. When I was an infant I had radiation therapy on a strawberry birthmark on the ear that is affected. This increases the likelihood of malignancy as they are finding a lot of cancerous connections to this therapy which was ill-informed at the time. My partner has been in hospital for the past 3 weeks for his own medical issues, so I have had to shoulder this diagnosis on my own. Pleased to have found this group as a little bit of support.
