Thank you for the many concerned emails we’ve received in the wake of Hurricane Odile. We are happy to report that the dormitories, kitchen, dining/multipurpose room, laundry room, the new metal cover over the basketball court, Joel and Alicia’s home, and the trailers in which the volunteers live all survived the storm! We were also fortunately to have a working generator to access electricity sparingly. Now for the bad news: 1. The round palapa used for many outdoor activities, homework, art and crafts, etc... was destroyed. Odile tore the wooden posts out of the concrete. 2. The outbuilding used to house one volunteer couple was completely destroyed and most of its contents lost. 3. All of the outbuildings used for storage, the woodshop, and animal shelters were destroyed. Fortunately, several of the significant woodshop tools were salvaged and are being stored in a van. 4. A flash flood disrupted the very large propane tank during the storm releasing all of the propane. The tank has been reconnected and now needs to be refilled. From the funds previously donated by generous benefactors, we were able to refill the propane tank and buy food and other much needed supplies including gasoline. Of course, there is still much clean up and repair to be done. Donations may be made at padrinoproject/.
