Thank you good people - you know who you are - for the most generous birthday salutations. As should befit someone entering their 58th year on this beautiful but increasingly fragile planet of ours, you might be of the view that I would be in a position to impart some pearls of wisdom or, at the very least, offer some ill thought through meditation on the very meaning of existence. Alas this is not the case and, at best, I can just about rise to the challenge of ordering another beer. Still, as long as there are birthdays and beer, and there is sunshine and music and poetry, I reckon Ill be able to put up with another 40 or 50 years of this malarkey they call life.
