Thank you so much to everyone who came out to Rose Music Hall Thursday night. We could not have asked for a better crowd to kick off the year with. After some great performances from Midz, Kelly Betz, Mantra, XQZ and LOOPRAT to start off the night, we dove into the first No Coast battles of 2015. Columbia hip-hop staple, Kaper Lucero, stepped up to the plate last minute to face league champion XQZ. XQZs original opponent, Spartacus, could not make it so Kaper and X agreed to the battle with less than a day to prepare. This was Kapers second No Coast battle ever and he definitely held it down and both MCs proved they can deliver with minimal prep. The next battle featured the return of KC Slater vs. Columbia comedian BS Elliots battle rap debut. After a heated battle to kick things off, this one was a bit more laid back and comedic. Both MCs had the crowd laughing and the winner is still being debated. We ended the night with a freestyle tournament that may have been our best yet. We saw solid performances from the usual suspects such as Lone, Midz, XQZ, and Perry Yae. However, the surprise of the event was the STLs Jared Rubin, who ended up beating XQZ in the finals to win the whole tournament in his first appearance ever at No Coast. Be on the lookout for him.
