Thank you to Meg from 2013 Mzanzi Trophy Team SAFHAIR. This blog post brought tears, it so special. Thank you. "The Afterglow, Meg Another adventure over, another life changing, mind altering crazy adventure in the record books. We’re all back in our respective (current) countries, those of us who have jobs have returned to them and I think everyone’s a bit down. It’s always hard to return to everyday life after one of these adventures, and I think because we’re all floating right now, none of our lives are as permanent as they once were and so it’s doubly hard. I have to say returning to Russia has been more than doubly hard, and as the temperatures continue to drop it’ll only get harder, I keep counting the days thinking “This many days ago I was in Africa…” I never thought of Africa as a travel destination. In fact I had stated in that past that I had no interest, I was drawn to other places much more. I can not understate how much my opinion has been changed. I think Jonathan and I were both talking about moving to South Africa on Day 3, it was that enchanting. It has a draw, an allure and as the African mist settles in every evening it’s just so shockingly beautiful that I can’t understand why anyone would ever want to live anywhere else. I’ll admit, I rolled my eyes at all the people I came across with the outline of Africa tattooed on them, it’s seemed cheesy. But now, having spent time here and amoung them I understand it. They have a connection with their land, their animals, their Africa that I can only just being to grasp. As someone who feels very little connection to their homeland it’s alien to me. But it wasn’t just the odd person here and there it was everyone. They all love their homeland, they all wanted what was best for it and it’s animals, it’s a beautiful thing. But I wrapped myself up in it like a warm blanket and enjoyed the glow and cried when the airport worker asked me where was going and I had to say Moscow. Why would anyone live in Russia when they could live in Africa? This is my last HairVenture, at least for a little while. Life beckons and after a decade of putting it off it seems I’ll have to answer that call. I have no idea if I’ll ever actually be able to live an ordinary life after the last three extraordinary years Jonathan and I have had. We’re both so blessed and lucky to have been able to do the things we’ve done and see the places we’ve seen. I’ve done the math, we’ve travelled 26,917 miles together on HairVentures, that is no small number in fact that’s more than the Earth’s circumference, and each and every mile was enjoyable. We passed through 38 different countries on 5 continents, numbers most people will never reach in their lifetime. It is an extremely rare thing to find someone you can spend six weeks in the constant company of without wanting to throw them out the window, we were very lucky to have stumbled across each other on the other side of the world from our homes. It’s an unlikely story, a crazy, silly, exciting, adventurous one and I’m so happy it’s mine. “ - safhair
