Thank you to all who attended our daytime meeting for the Retlaw! Ill write up specific wrap-up notes after both meetings are done. Tonight, Im short on time as Im painting a forest. : ) Quick recap: Norm brought the floor plans he got from the Architectural Theater History Museum in Chicago! They are wonderful to look at. Jesse V Gustafson, Norm gave me a set to give to you, per your conversation with him. : ) This set is reduced, thus not to scale, however, I think it would be nice to get a few copies made to scale and have found someone that can help us with that. Norm Lenburg, do you have a full size set at home or did you just get a computer file. I forgot. Lets talk. We gave out collectible magnets : / We shared the lawyers notes and discussed questions, pros and cons. The turn out was very small, a real disappointment as this does not give us a clear picture of who would like to help Fond du Lac positively affect progress in the future. Cant save buildings if no one is willing to work on this with this small group. Is that what everyone wants? Maybe you feel there are no buildings left? We discussed Lakeside Park, as worth fighting for, even though the process would be different as its owned by the city and overseen by the Parks and Recreation Department. Citizens Group or not, the more you figure out the path to save it from too much development NOW, the more you can hope to protect it and work to protect it. Please make note of the fact that some positions are opening soon on the HPC (as well as most of the other boards/commissions.) One opening on the HPC. The city asks that you have some vested interest/experience/expertise in Historic Preservation to apply for the HPC spot. Leadership experience is helpful. Talk to the city clerk if you are interested. The applications are very basic and not cumbersome at all. Today we discussed whether one HPC person voting their own mind would be helpful enough on our HPC Board. The answer to that is a HUGE YES. Even just ONE person stating the obvious or clarifying ordinances or questioning the route being taken, questioning the pressured vote, questioning the rushed vote, questioning how CW fit into the Arts and Entertainment District City plan, questioning why the HPC was not touring the building, questioning whos duty it is to assist Boyd when the economy took him down, questioning why no one was acknowledging Ann Kellys offer, questioning how the remaining artifacts inside the Retlaw would be saved, questioning which items would be used locally and how, questioning WHY the HPC was being told they could only vote for CWs offer on the table when their whole reason for being on the HPC is to question and prevent ANY demolitions of Historic Properties no matter who is pushing it and work, THEMSELVES, to find owners that would not take the Historically protected building down....at all, even a portion. Yes, one vote of reason could have opened the flood gates of human reasoning....JUST IN CASE....there IS an alternative offer on the property as there was in this case. JUST IN CASE the building is being misrepresented as ready to fall down when it is structurally sound. Just in case an owner cant afford to maintain their historic property and needs help or intervention. Just in case a city/newspaper decides to FINALLY acknowledge the Arts and Entertainment District -- (after months and months of dodging that topic) two weeks AFTER this Historic Theater has been demolished. All for now. More later. Michael Winkler, I have your left-over yard signs. : ) Im looking at Monday Night, November 17th for the rest of the Wrap up effort. Please let me know if that date does NOT work for you....as this night is flexible.Tuesday the 18th is no longer available for me, personally. Wednesday could also work. Is Monday a go? Ill book the Public Library tomorrow. Just would love to see more than 3 guests, if possible. If not, Im cool with 3. No one is going to be given hard jobs. : ) No jobs at all if you dont want change at all. Its up to everyone to decide. : )
