Thank you to all who have donated towards flood relief over the last few days! Over 100,000 in Malawi have been displaced by the flooding this month, and many families have lost their food stores. Heres a quick update from CEO Todd Schafer: “Local village Community Caregivers and Coordinators went door-to-door on Friday and identified nearly 3000 affected households in our 40 GAIA Villages. That’s a huge number but the range of impact is apparently wide. From what I’ve seen some have lost literally everything (not even partial walls left standing) and others suffered water damage to food stores and household goods. The determining factors are: 1) proximity to rivers; 2) elevation of the ground on which the house is built; and 3) whether cement was used in construction. Food distribution is to start this week.
