Thank-you to all who joined us at our potluck on the 23rd. Kings - TopicsExpress

Thank-you to all who joined us at our potluck on the 23rd. Kings Keepers managed to flesh out ideas and appoint people to tasks for ESC (Environmental Stewardship Challenge) within this meeting, so it was definitely productive. Now, if others who did not attend the meeting wish to be involved please contact me via email or post to the Kings Keepers facebook page. For those of you who havent read the emails I will detail the ESC for you. The ESC event will consist of two weeks of challenges band events based on four themes that are designated to two days within the week. Anyone from Kings University can pledge to the ESC and each time a person completes a challenge they will check it off of their list. At the end of the two week event, we will tally each persons checklist and place their name in the draw for each item that was checked off. We will draw one name and present a prize to the winner from this draw at the very last event. The ESC will take place from March 23rd to April 3rd. The first theme will involve Waste from March 23rd-24th: - The three Rs will be challenges presented in the checklist: Whether you recycled (composted), reused, or reduced your amount of waste within two weeks. Other challenges related to waste include acts such as picking up litter. - For events we were thinking of making displays (posters) and having speakers from organizations like Salvation Army (reusing), and maybe a talk from a representative from Edmonton Waste Management. We should be contacting all these individuals within the next week. We hope to present these talks sometime in the afternoon. Other events could include a kick off documentary viewing. - Karambir and Kailyn have signed up to working on this two day theme. The second theme involves Water and it will run from March 26th-27th: - Challenges can include taking short showers, reducing the amount of water you use when you brush your teeth, wash your face, etc... and using less hot water. Simply, not letting your water run. - Again, a visual display could be made for this week and local speakers such as a representative from the Water Treatment Plant, or other water related organizations (Alexandra), could speak to students. A documentary viewing could occur as well. - Alexandra and Joel are in charge of these two days. Energy is the third theme and it will take place on March 30-31: - Challenges in transportation such as carpooling, walking, biking, and using public transit. Other challenges include things like reducing power usage, or using some form of green energy. - Again, we might try to get a speaker for this event (NEED IDEAS for a local speaker). This week we hope to rent bike powered smoothie machine (for the 31st) and (maybe) create another visual display (or poster). - Waurner and myself (and possibly Miriam) will work on this theme Food will be the final theme on April 2nd and 3rd: - Challenges: Eating locally, and reducing meat consumption (as well as overall consumption). - Might get a speaker from Organic Box (organization that utilizes local eating near Edmonton), a Farmers Market (Strathcona, etc...) or a speaker that represents the Cafeteria at Kings. An event of challenge might include a potluck or some sort of serving or local food. The final event of the ESC might involve a small farmers market in the level in which we will present the winner of the prize. - Cacey and Karyn will be in charge of this theme. If you have any ideas further ideas, or questions please contact me or post on this page!
