Thank you to all who showed up last night and to all who spoke. - TopicsExpress

Thank you to all who showed up last night and to all who spoke. Here is a poster brought by a teacher. It shows a DIBELS test - a test mandated by NMPEDs Skandera if a district wants Reads to Lead $$$$. Make sense to you? Parents: opt out. Its unfortunate board comments have been pushed to end of meeting. You missed the comments of a few and a few sparks between members. Apparently, we should not be angry at board members. We should vote to change the state leadership because we need the K-3 money. Heck, I guess we dont need a board of Ed then. Its the states fault and we have to do what the state says anyway. Frustrating. Two packed rooms. 23 speakers. Fell on deaf ears. Dr. Maestas is drafting a letter to lawmakers to tell them my actions are my own and do not reflect the boards thoughts. Dr. Maestas reported she met with ABQ Chamber of Commerce and both parties reflected the desire to continue collaboration for the well-being of ABQ and NM children. And the mayor invited Dr. Maestas to his office and she reports a desire by the mayor to continue collaboration with the board. Collaboration has taken a whole new definition in the past two years and I hate the word. To me, it means on the Board of Ed that we shut up and do as we are told. And on the Reads to Lead grant money, Lorenzo Garcia and I voted no. The money passed 5-2. DIBELS it is.
