Thank you to everybody for birthday wishes. One year ago I had an idea and a 400 page note book full of research, notes and rubbish. Thanks to 12 months of unrelenting bullying, unstinting support, enthusiasm and encouragement from Gaylie Runciman and short sharp shocks of input from Peter Arnott I have written a play. I feel blessed indeed that a group of friends have agreed to read the play out loud for me in return for bus fares and grub. On Sunday I am off to the Lake District to camp, swim, eat and drink in the company of friends. There will be food and wine in quantity and quality. Getting older is not absolutely brilliant but it does have brilliant compensations.
