Thank you to everyone for your good wishes, cards and gifts for our Silver Wedding Anniversary last week. I didnt publicise it on Facebook but we were actually in Portugal. We flew back yesterday and arrived home last night. When i was unpacking last night, I found a major calamity had occurred. With typical Portuguese impatience, the man in Departures rushed us through. Id taken out the requisite metal, electrical items etc. he grabbed my iPad and threw it on the top of the conveyor belt and pushed everything else, including my camera and Kindle through the scanner. Id also put a pouch with jewellery there. They rushed us through and stopped Peter as he had items over 100 ml in his bag. In all of the confusion, I grabbed my iPad and handbag, leaving everything else in the skip. I didnt realise until last night. I immediately called the airport, who put me through to the police. The officer who spoke English was rude and also told me they did not have the items. I could live without my camera, Kindle and most of my jewellery, as Id really only taken cheap jewellery, other than my rings. Id taken them off because my hands had swollen in the heat. These were of sentimental value, one was a ring which my late mother had left me, so I was heartbroken. Ive rung again this morning and found out that some kind and honest person had found them and handed them in. Now I have a problem getting them back. I will pay carriage and any other expenses, plus something for their trouble, but the police wont post them, couriers cant comply with the police requirements etc. I have no connections in Porto. Ive spoken to various international couriers with not a lot of success. Does anybody know someone living in Porto who would do the job of collecting and posting for money or someone who travels to Porto? Im so relieved that my rings are safe, but now have the worry of getting them back.
