Thank you to everyone who joined me, and to John Denham MP for helping me launch our General Election Campaign. I’m running to be your MP in next year’s General Election. I believe it is time for Basingstoke to have a strong, local, committed, constituency Member of Parliament. I believe that Maria Miller has broken her contract with the people of our town. Basingstoke deserves better. My first pledge is that I will open a local office in the Town Centre, where people can walk in off the street to speak to and contact their MP. Basingstoke is a great place to live but not everyone shares in our town’s prosperity. Many people feel they and their families are missing out on the opportunities and wealth we see in our town. It is not easy trying to afford to live in Basingstoke. Too many people are relying on the local food-bank, or relying on pay day lenders to get by - people choosing between heating or eating. We see two Basingstokes: one prosperous and successful, another that is hurting because of the cuts and because of the divisions created by the Tory and Lib Dem Government intent on punishing the poorest in our community. Basingstoke is better than this. We can be so much more and together we can make sure our town is prosperous, successful and achieves for everyone. I understand the huge challenges so many people are facing, and I will not settle for a two-tier Basingstoke - we want one Basingstoke, fair for all. That’s what I stand for.
