Thank you to my Miss Earth pageant sisters Luissa Burton and Imogen Mitchell for my nomination. #WhatMakesMeAQueen Since I was 15 I have always wanted to enter Miss Earth after Kayleigh OReilly won for Northern Ireland in 2009 but never knew how to apply and always thought I would never be what their looking for. Eventually I competed in 2013, learnt from the experience and came back in 2014 fighting and I ended up winning. My pageant journey began in 2012 where I competed for Miss Derry for Miss World Ireland- I didnt place and the day after I was approached to enter Miss Derry for Miss World Northern Ireland which I won. I didnt know what I was letting myself in for and in the back of my mind Miss Earth was always there. Now I look back and can see I totally was not ready. However the experience was amazing and I am so blessed and grateful that I was given the opportunity. I believe the opportunity gave me the push I needed to find out how to enter Miss Earth- I should have just give up after not placing but instead I used it as a learning opportunity which motivated me to do better. Pageants really require a positive can do attitude which I now mirror in my everyday life. It teaches you goal setting, discipline and is a major boost for any girls self- confidence. Most of all pageant are FUN and allows you to meet girls from all walks of life which end up becoming life-long friends. All my pageant friends are remarkable young woman both beautiful and intelligent. What I admire them most for is that they have raised thousands of pounds for their chosen charities. I feel that I have been extremely lucky to have competed at a prestigious international pageant where I visited schools, orphanages with the most beautiful children, took part in environmental activities that will benefit local communities during times of natural disaster and met girls from all over the globe who I have learned so much from. Also, I am honoured to have worked with an amazing charity- The Rainbow Rehoming Centre and numerous individuals throughout my Miss Earth journey who inspire me everyday for their passion and kindness in their work. Lastly, the typical stereotype that comes with entering a beauty pageant which I get all the time should put no girl off entering. What others have to say is their opinion and sometimes they may not see that at the end of the day were all human and have feelings but just lift your head up (or the crown slips) ;-) and do what you want to do. Danielle Latimer and Nadina Azara Knight- great idea
