Thank you to the young people of the London Borough of Redbridge, - TopicsExpress

Thank you to the young people of the London Borough of Redbridge, as since March 2013, I have had the opportunity to represent the youth of this area. I have tried my hardest to achieve my pledges and I am still continuing to try and achieve these. I held the first ever Youth Debate in Redbridge in the Council Chamber in October as a way of uniting young people - a pledge I wished to achieve. From this, the council are taking the young peoples concerns forward to the local elections in May. The three major concerns that were raised - [Most popular] 1) Mental Health Issues, 2) Safety of Young People and 3) Combating Youth Unemployment. The Cabinet also decided to give the Young Cabinet £100,000 to spend on solving these issues. I also organised a visit from Louis Smith to Woodford County High School. I am working on similar projects currently with different schools in the borough as well. This year has been great but it will be ending very soon. HOWEVER, I am standing for election once again. I feel inspired to continue trying to make a positive impact on the youth in our community. This is my manifesto for this years youth election: Redbridge youth believe we need a better link between TfL (Transport for London) and schools. We need to ensure buses are punctual and regular. Through this we can ensure that our transport system is efficient and allows students to feel confident about the punctuality of buses and trains. I aim to build a stronger relationship between young people and the police as I feel that young people do not have many opportunities to talk to the police about their concerns and may feel intimidated to approach them. This could help to tackle the concern of young people’s safety on the streets – an issue raised during the youth debate held in October. I aim to increase sporting activities and competitions between schools by holding tournaments regularly which are academic, creative and sporty. This could recognise talents and celebrate them within our borough. I will continue working on my pledge to invite inspirational people to schools in the following year if I am re-elected. In short: My issues for Redbridge which I would like to solve are: IMPROVING links between TfL (Transport for London) and schools INCREASING sporting activities and competitions within the borough by holding events and inviting inspirational people to schools CREATING better links between the police and young people. I have consulted many young people in order to form my manifesto this year. These are three popular issues in which they are concerned with. I hope that you agree with the issues I have put forward and will take the opportunity to vote in this years youth election! PLEASE vote for me as your MYP! ~ Sabah Mohammed
