Thankful, Day 13: I am thankful for my church, First Church of Lufkin. Ive been a member since 1999. Weve went through three pastors since then. Brother Bud Davis, who recently passed away, was the reason I chose this church. As I was looking at different churches in the area, I knew a few of the people who were going to First Church, namely Bubby and Shelly Sanderson and a couple of others, but thats not why I chose First Church. I was visiting on a Sunday morning and in the middle of the song service, Brother Bud saw a lady on the far left side of the church with a need. Without stopping the service or calling any attention to himself, he just went to her, spoke with her a bit and then prayed for her right there, while the song service continued. I knew then that I had found someone with the heart of a pastor. We lost a great man of God when he passed. He stepped down as pastor a few years ago and Karl Smith took over as pastor and quickly became my favorite pastor of all time. Humble, intelligent and devoted, he helped me through the divorce and then some. Oh and he looks just like the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts. :D After Brother Smith, we got our current pastor, Brother Stanley. He is easily one of the best preachers I have ever heard. Now for my lady, Christina. :) I am thankful for her family. Yeah, you heard me right; I am thankful for my future in-laws. Terry and Gina Masters are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Anytime you meet the parents of the girl youre dating, there is a bit of trepidation as to how you will get along, especially since I was kinda dressed like a mercenary at the time (we were going to a Ren Fest). We all went out to eat breakfast at a local restaurant and Terry talked to me as if I were rationally dressed. :D You gotta give him points for that! Both have made me feel welcome ever since. They did a great job raising Christina, guiding her while allowing her to be her eclectic self, instilling in her a love of reading and adventure, helping to shape her into the amazing woman I know and love today.
